Scouted by Nordstrom at 18

My journey of modeling has always been a hard thing for me to talk about because I struggle with the idea of not being humble.

Things always seem to make sense when you look back, but not always in the moment. I spent a good majority of my life hanging out and learning from my mom in her sewing room. She would often create something and then would ask me to try something on so she could see it. I always thought this was just what moms did! She always said I was perfect to try on.

Growing up one of five, my family often was told we were a very good looking family. Kind of overwhelmingly so (for me at least). The idea to do a model casting was thrown out there and next I know, I am in a casting room interviewing. At 13 I was offered my first agency signing. After a lot of contemplation and my involvement in sports, the offer was turned down.

Fast forward to freshman year of college, I had decided to attended school for Fashion Design. I was incredibly involved in the after school programs and met a recruiter for Nordstrom who offered me a job working at their E-commerce! I was thrilled and took the opportunity!

I was still in my training program when I was walking down the hallway and was stopped by another employee who asked me a few questions. I just figured people were really friendly! It wasn't until later that my training instructor pulled me aside to tell me I had been scouted for a modeling position and to give me further details.

I had so many emotions. I was stunned and thrilled, but also intimidated and scared. After a lot of contemplation, I decided I was not ready at that time of my life to explore something like that.

Fast forward even further, I had moved to California and was working as a designer for various skate, surf, snow conglomerates. I measured garments until my fingers bled and looked at spec sheets until I went crosseyed. There was always this theme from all the companies that I had worked with that I would attend these fit meetings as a designer to end up finding myself at the front of the room with the garments on. One of the designers (who was kind of a mentor) printed out and gave me a paper to write all my measurements. I took that home and took all the measurements to learn that I was the ideal measurements. Opportunities started to really open up for me when the decision was made to move to Boise.

Moving to Boise had a lot of challenges in that regard. It was very hard for me to further explore with a new focus and a growing business. The idea was put on the back burner for years and I focused on development and portfolio building for others in the Boise area.

I have been growing my business for the last 7 years and in public operation for the last 5. Voxn is now fully on it's own and it's given me a lot of needed free time again!

In that free time, an opportunity came around again and this time I decided that I am ready to pursue it. More details to come.

Thank you for following my wild, wild journey!
