The World of Technology and Your Business

Technology. An efficient advancement in society, yet a scary field to navigate when it comes to security, web/software customization and intellectual protection.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not an absolute expert in technology. However, I do know enough to take a company website and email down during a c-panel data migration by pointing all the name servers to a different host and changing the DNS MX Records to a 24 hour TTL propagation during a peek period. (So, enough to be dangerous. Very dangerous.) But, that's a story for another day... and don't worry, I'm much better now.

If starting a business hasn't been hard enough in the past, revolutionary inventions like the internet have come to present us with new terrain to navigate. Whether you are an online commerce or only brick and mortar, having and protecting your online presence is crucial in the world we live in today and can deem equally as important as your physical locations.

While this may seem scary and overwhelming, it's a great opportunity to build a business from the ground up with efficient systems already in place. Equip yourself as a new business owner by reading and understanding as many different facets of technology in business including ways to encrypt/protect your data through https, VPN's, regular software updates, enabling Cyber Breach Insurance, etc. Even if you are not the most tech savvy person, knowing this information will help you relay your needs to someone who can help you and prevent many costly mistakes.

For starters, if you are just starting your business, you most likely have a name for your business that you will want to register. Before registering you will want to research your new business name to ensure it is not in use. When you are starting the process of research, do so with intent as too many searches can tip off algorithms and attract attention from those with unethical intent with your new business name. Overall, it's great to hire an attorney to do this in-depth research for you and legally register once you have the green light.

For business owners, this step is so crucial for further protection that I will cover in my next blog: Trademark Intellectual Property and the Internet.

Overall, there is a lot to talk about when it comes to the digital world and the technology stack in your new business that I can't do it in just one blog! Keep an eye out for my upcoming series on different technology practices and solutions.

The more you inform yourself, the more efficiently you can streamline operations and scale your business. Build a system you can trust.

If you're not sure how, reach out. :)
