Mind and Machine

The brain.

Such an incredible creation and so very complex. Humans have been studying the brain for centuries to understand how people learn, love and process information. It's incredibly fascinating. We are only scratching the surface of the brain, but congruently are creating technology that resembles the brain known as artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence or AI is intelligence that is demonstrated by machines.

How does AI work? First, let's look at how the brain works. Your brain has different regions the process different types of information through messengers called neurons. Neurons are the basic working unit of the brain. Neurons use electrical impulses and chemical signals to transmit information to different areas of the brain and from the brain to the rest of your body's nervous system. A more complex, entangles system of these neurons is called a neuronet. Your neuronet is your first line of defense when processing information from the outside world and will send this information down different pathways based on previously developed paths for you to process that information intake in the correct area. These pathways take years to develop or...learn.

Understanding how the brain processes information has had many benefits throughout history. We have found ways to understand the brain and how it processes panic and ways to override it to help stay calm in otherwise chaotic situations. This have been very helpful for all branches of the military and doctors in emergency situations.

How does this relate to AI? AI is modeled around the brain and mimics human intelligence using computers and logic. A vast neuronet is set up for information to process. But, how does this go from a complicated system to a useable AI? Machine learning.

Machine learning is similar to a child learning, although it is a very long process and takes massive amounts of data. Massive amounts of data. This data is collected through your use of the internet ecommerce, social media sites, cell phones, virtual reality, etc. Data science helps analyze that data and create functional and efficient solutions.

Examples of developed AI is through devices like the Amazon Echo, Go the game and Tesla's self driving system. This systems are sophisticated and incredible and are...always learning.

Here are two great documentaries on Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence. Happy geeking...
